Description
Grinch Popcorn is a festive, sweet and salty snack perfect for holiday movie nights or gift-giving. It features fluffy popcorn coated in a vibrant green marshmallow glaze, with a sprinkle of red candy hearts for a fun, colorful twist.
Ingredients
Scale
- 10 cups plain popped popcorn (about ⅓ cup kernels)
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter
- 3 cups mini marshmallows
- Green food coloring (gel or liquid)
- Red candy hearts
- Optional: green and white sprinkles
- Pinch of flaky sea salt
Instructions
- Pop the popcorn. If using kernels, heat 1-2 tbsp of oil in a large pot, add kernels, and shake until popping slows. If using microwave popcorn, pop according to package instructions. Remove unpopped kernels.
- Make the Grinch glaze by melting butter over low heat in a medium saucepan. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted and smooth.
- Once the marshmallows are fully melted, remove from heat and add green food coloring. Stir until the color is uniform and vibrant.
- Quickly pour the green glaze over the popcorn, gently folding and tossing to coat each kernel without crushing them.
- While the marshmallow coating is still sticky, sprinkle with red candy hearts and optional sprinkles. Add a pinch of sea salt for a sweet and salty balance.
- Allow the popcorn to sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes to set. Once it’s cool, break it into clusters and serve in a festive bowl or package for gifting.
Notes
- If you prefer a vegan version, use vegan butter and ensure the marshmallows and candies are vegan-friendly.
- For a snowy effect, drizzle white chocolate over the cooled popcorn.
- This recipe can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days, though it’s best enjoyed fresh.
