It’s a perfect treat for winter days or special occasions.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup 2% milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 4 ounces dark chocolate (60% cacao preferred)
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon instant coffee or espresso powder
- Whipped cream and chocolate shavings (optional, for topping)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of 2% milk and 1/2 cup of heavy cream. Heat over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the mixture is just bubbling around the edges.
- Reduce the heat to low and whisk in 4 ounces of finely chopped dark chocolate. Stir until the chocolate has melted and fully incorporated into the milk and cream mixture.
- Add 2 tablespoons of maple syrup, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 1/2 teaspoon of instant coffee or espresso powder. Whisk until smooth and well combined.
- Remove from heat and transfer the hot chocolate into small mugs or cups.
- Top with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or mini marshmallows, if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use whole milk instead of 2% milk.
- If you don’t have espresso powder, you can skip it, but it enhances the chocolate flavor.
- This recipe can be made ahead of time. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days and reheat gently.
