Description

Green colored popcorn is a fun, festive, sweet snack made with fluffy popcorn coated in a bright green candy glaze. Perfect for St. Patrick’s Day, parties, movie nights, and holiday celebrations, this easy recipe comes together quickly and delivers a crunchy, colorful treat everyone loves.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 10 cups popped popcorn (about 1/3 cup unpopped kernels): light and airy base for the coating
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter: adds richness and helps the coating stick
  • 1 cup granulated sugar: creates the sweet candy glaze
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup: keeps the coating smooth and prevents crystallization
  • 1/2 teaspoon green food coloring: gives the popcorn its vibrant green color
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract: balances sweetness with warm flavor
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda: creates a lighter, crisp coating texture

Instructions

  1. Pop the popcorn using an air popper or stovetop method and place it in a very large bowl, removing any unpopped kernels.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter, then stir in the sugar and corn syrup until fully combined.
  3. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring constantly, and let it boil for about 2 minutes until smooth.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat and carefully stir in the green food coloring, vanilla extract, and baking soda. The mixture will foam slightly.
  5. Slowly pour the green coating over the popcorn, gently stirring to coat all pieces evenly.
  6. Spread the popcorn onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and allow it to cool completely before breaking it apart and serving.

Notes

  • Use a very large bowl to avoid crushing the popcorn while mixing.
  • Let the popcorn cool fully before storing to keep it crisp.
  • Adjust the food coloring to make the green color lighter or darker.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
