Description

This Panda Express Chow Mein recipe brings the beloved Chinese takeout dish straight to your kitchen. With chewy noodles stir-fried in a savory sauce, it combines the perfect balance of soy sauce, sesame oil, and garlic, all complemented by crunchy vegetables like cabbage, celery, and onions. A quick and easy dish ready in 15 minutes!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb chow mein noodles (fresh)
  • 2 cups cabbage (thinly sliced)
  • 1 cup celery (sliced)
  • 1 small onion (sliced)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (or any neutral oil)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • ½ tablespoon dark soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce (or vegetarian stir-fry sauce)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • ¼ cup chicken stock (low-sodium or cold water)
  • ½ tablespoon cornstarch (or potato starch)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, garlic, chicken stock, and cornstarch. Stir until cornstarch is dissolved and the sauce is well mixed.
  2. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the chow mein noodles and cook for 20-30 seconds until loosened. Drain and set aside.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the onions, cabbage, and celery, and stir-fry for about 1 minute until softened.
  4. Push the vegetables to one side of the pan and add the remaining oil. Then, add the noodles and pour the prepared sauce over the noodles.
  5. Toss everything together until the noodles are evenly coated with the sauce. Remove from heat and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Do not overcook the noodles; blanch them for just 20-30 seconds for the perfect chewy texture.
  • For best results, don’t over stir-fry the noodles after adding the sauce to prevent them from becoming mushy.
  • This dish can be stored in the fridge for up to 4 days. Reheat it on medium heat in a pan or microwave for 2-3 minutes.
  • Feel free to add your choice of protein like chicken, pork, shrimp, or tofu for a complete meal.
