Description

This creamy Tomato Pasta features tender pasta tossed in a rich tomato cream sauce made with garlic, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and heavy cream. It’s an easy, comforting dinner that comes together quickly and delivers bold tomato flavor with a smooth, velvety finish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz (340 g) pasta (penne, rigatoni, or bowties)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup (240 ml) tomato sauce
  • 3/4 cup (180 ml) heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/3 cup (30 g) grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup pasta cooking water (as needed)

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve about 1/4 cup of the pasta water, then drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30–60 seconds, until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the tomato paste and cook for another minute to deepen the flavor.
  4. Add the tomato sauce and Italian seasoning. Stir well and let the sauce simmer gently for 3–4 minutes.
  5. Lower the heat and pour in the heavy cream, stirring until the sauce becomes smooth and creamy. Season with salt and black pepper.
  6. Add the drained pasta to the skillet and toss until fully coated. If the sauce is too thick, add a little reserved pasta water to loosen it.
  7. Remove from heat and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Use freshly grated Parmesan for the best flavor and smooth melting.
  • If the sauce tastes too acidic, add a small pinch of sugar to balance the tomato flavor.
  • You can add cooked chicken, shrimp, or sautéed vegetables to make it more filling.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
