Description

This Dutch oven sourdough bread recipe produces a delicious, homemade loaf with a crispy crust and chewy interior. Perfect for beginners and seasoned bakers alike, it requires minimal ingredients but yields impressive results.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500 grams Organic Bread Flour
  • 300 grams Water
  • 100 grams Sourdough Starter
  • 10–15 grams Sea Salt

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the starter, flour, salt, and water. Knead the ingredients together until a uniform dough ball forms.
  2. Mist your clean countertop and hands with water. Turn the dough onto the surface and stretch the top over the bottom, folding side to side. Repeat for about 6 hours, allowing the dough to rest between folds.
  3. After stretching and folding, shape the dough into a round boule. Let it rest for 1 hour.
  4. Flip the dough over and fold it again to shape it into a loaf. Place it in a flour-coated proofing basket and cover it. Let it rise overnight in the fridge.
  5. Preheat your Dutch oven to 450°F (232°C) while you prepare the dough.
  6. Score the top of your dough and carefully transfer it to the preheated Dutch oven. Cover and bake for 30 minutes. Then remove the lid and bake for another 20-30 minutes to achieve a golden crust.
  7. Remove the bread from the Dutch oven and allow it to cool on a wire rack for at least 1 hour before slicing.

Notes

  • Do not use a floured surface for stretching and folding; instead, use water to prevent the dough from sticking.
  • The dough’s resting time may vary depending on your home’s temperature, but the total proofing time will generally be 8-12 hours in the fridge.
  • If you don’t have a Dutch oven, you can use a heavy pot or baking sheet with a bowl covering it to retain moisture and heat.
  • For added flavor, you can incorporate herbs, nuts, or cheese into the dough before baking.
